A tanker being loaded
At Valdez, about 70 tankers are loaded with oil each month, at a rate of up to 100,000 barrels per hour. Tankers spend an average of 22 hours at a berth; there are one floating and three fixed berths. Holding capacities vary from 0.2 million to 1.8 million barrels, depending on the tanker. By 1992, over 12,000 tankers will have been loaded, with more than nine billion barrels of oil.

On the road again
After having taken the glacier tour and spending time at the terminal, we decided we would not have time to go to Kenai Peninsula, so we headed for Anchorage. I had a flight to catch back to Seattle and then to Wichita.

You gotta stop at the tastee freez
I've forgotten where this is, but it has become a ritual with the Davis bunch to stop here for a treat. I think it relates to the fact that when they lived at Barrow, they only had powdered milk and no "real" ice cream.

Ted (the Alaska rookie)
This being my first trip to Alaska, I was treated to many new adventures by my brother and his family. They have lived in Alaska at Barrow for almost 18 years, and made this trek south by land several times, so they had discovered some favorites spots. I thoroughly enjoyed this time with them seeing this awesome land. If you really want to "get away from it all", this is the place, although I'm not sure a city guy like me could take it for very long.
