69 Chevy El Camino SS454
I purchased the 1969 SS396 ElCamino in 1994 with the goal of restoring it to street-stock. The 396 in the vehicle at the time I purchased it turned out to be a 1976 "396" (402). As the numbers did not match anyway I abandoned the street-stock project and upgraded the engine 5 years ago to a 454. The expense of the engine and drive train used so much of my project budget that I only replace the front fenders at the time and repaired the remainder of the body. The ElCamino became my daily driver for about three years. During this time I drove about 27,000 miles. Two years ago the repaired rust on the rear quarter panels started showing through the paint and last year I parked the vehicle before the rust became any worse. I purchased a 1979 GMC Sprint Diablo as my daily driver with the intent of repairing and repainting the '69. However... in the spring of 1999 I saw a 1970 ElCamino that I had to have. Since then I have been busy building a 1996 LT4 /4L60E for the '70. My wife recently gave me the word "SELL SOMETHING" so.... The '69 went.
